“If we’re such a racist nation, why do we have an African American president?”
(ANTIMEDIA) A video from 2013 has come to light showing the sheriff of Escambiaso County, Florida, David Morgan, sputtering on nonsensically about black culture.
Morgan’s bizarre speech begins with a criticism of the term African-American with Morgan emphatically stating:
“the blacks who currently reside in the United States of America are not from Africa.”
Apparently, the good sheriff does not have access to the internet, or he’d know data from the 2000 U.S. census shows 881,300 immigrants from Africa presently reside within American borders. Is he saying black people from Africa are not from Africa?
The stupidity does not stop there! Sheriff David Morgan was just getting started. He goes on to state, “I would remind black Americans that you are little less than 13% of the entire population of the United States.” Who is Sheriff David Morgan talking to, exactly, and what is his point? Who knows? It is unclear if even Morgan knows what point he is attempting to make besides showcasing himself as a racist who holds a seat of power in the south. Let’s just note, for the record, that Escambiaso County’s population is predominantly made up of 69% white and 23% black individuals.
Already showcasing his brilliant mathematical skills Sheriff David Morgan then asserted, “Had every one of those people been voter eligible only 13% could have voted for President Obama.” The United States is presently home to 45 million black individuals. To assert that only 5,850,000 black Americans are eligible to vote is simply not true. The facts do not seem to matter much to an individual whose opinions and judgments impact the lives of those living in this country. In fact, according to census.gov (there is that tricky Internet again) approximately 17.8 million black voters cast a ballot during the 2012 election. That is a tad under 40% of the entire black population who voted, which is to say nothing of Morgan’s claim that only 13% of the entire black population could vote.
Let’s let the Sheriff continue ranting. He goes on, “If we’re such a racist nation, why do we have an African American president?” My initial reaction is to say, “because of schmucks like you, Davie.” Also, didn’t he earlier disavow the use of the term African American? Is it interchangeable, but only when it suits his agenda? So says author Lewis Carroll, “curiouser and curiouser” we continue to go down the rabbit hole of idiocy.
What next? Sheriff David Morgan says:
“We have unfortunately, in America, embraced a thug culture. One that aggrandizes, again, foul language, shooting cops, abusing women and if you think those things do not have an effect on our children you need to get a grip!”
Well, thanks for those pearls of wisdom, Davie. Who knew that black culture was the cause of all the ills of America? Indeed, black people, according to a sheriff whose county’s population is 20% black, just painted a scarlet letter on any person whose skin color does not match his. Domestic abuse, obviously, is the fault of “thug culture.” This is a man who walks around with a gun and the ability to shoot people, or if they are lucky, incarcerate them. Do his words ring towards any type of bias? Certainly not! Am I the only person who would be interested to dig into Sheriff David Morgan’s arrest statistics to see if there are any racial biases in play?
The video then cuts to a speech Sheriff David Morgan gave at the Rotary Club in 2013. After listing several crimes involving white victims and black assailants, Morgan asks, “Where is the outrage?” as if to imply the murders of innocent members of the population were met with apathy. Perhaps he was looking for others to join him in his chorus call to decry “thug culture” at the heart of America’s ills.
Sheriff David Morgan punctuates his embarrassing tirades by blaming crimes on a lack of “faith, family, and religion.” Morgan believes that individuals require to be “tethered” to live moral lives, with an implication that only those who believe in his theological views are capable of not enacting in criminal behavior. Morgan’s religious beliefs are unknown, but I’ll step out onto the plank to venture he is not a practicing Muslim. This implies that he believes Christianity is the only possible salvation for America’s population.
The cognitive dissonance is astounding.
Local reporting by ABC 3 contacted Morgan who says his words were “taken out of context” Morgan also believes that those who propagate information about his rant have “a motive.”
As I am a generous man, I shall give Sheriff David Morgan the final word:
“I challenge someone to find an incident where anyone could have said that I am racist.”
Sheriff David Morgan is seeking reelection and will be on the county ballot in 2016. He says the publications of his words are politically motivated.
