It’s only been four days since 19-year-old Tony Robinson was shot and killed by a police officer in Madison, Wisconsin. But since then protests have swelled to almost unprecedented levels. The Madison Police department has even suffered a crippling cyber attack on its website that, at the time of this article’s publication, is still down.

Yesterday, several hundred high school and university students as well as others turned out to grieve the loss of their friend Tony Robinson.

The protesters walked out of class and occupied the state capitol. Meanwhile, outside of Madison, there has been relatively no media coverage of this event.

The student protesters marched in a six-lane-wide group that blocked Martin Luther King Jr Blvd.

The police stood down, as they simply could not arrest that many protesters. The Chief of Police got on a megaphone and actually offered an unofficial apology for the shooting of Tony Robinson that occurred last Friday.

He noted that there “an ongoing investigation” and urged them to “have patience.”

Meanwhile, the police have now formally identified the shooter as Madison police officer Matthew Kenny.

Protester Donta Latham, 15, a freshman at La Follette High School, said that she was out there, facing arrest for her friend Tony.

“Tony was like a brother to me,” Donta said. “He did have his flaws but he was a great kid.”
