Calls For Arrest Of Michigan Governor As Poisoned Water Scandal Explodes

Calls for Michigan Governor Rick Snyder’s ouster—and arrest—are growing after internal emails showed that his high-level staffers were aware of lead poisoning in Flint’s public water supply six months before the administration declared a state of emergency.

According to the newly-released emails, which were obtained by NBC News, Snyder’s chief of staff at the time, Dennis Muchmore, wrote to an unnamed high-level health department staffer: “I’m frustrated by the water issue in Flint.”

“These folks are scared and worried about the health impacts and they are basically getting blown off by us (as a state we’re just not sympathizing with their plight),” Muchmore wrote in the email, according to journalists Stephanie Gosk, Kevin Monahan, Tim Sandler and Hannah Rappleye.

“I really don’t think people are getting the benefit of the doubt,” wrote Muchmore. “Now they are concerned and rightfully so about the lead level studies they are receiving.”

But it was not until this week that Snyder declared a state of emergency, following in the footsteps of the city’s mayor. “The health and welfare of Flint residents is a top priority and we’re committed to a coordinated approach with resources from state agencies to address all aspects of this situation,” Snyder said on Tuesday.

Following the resignation of Michigan’s top environmental official, as well as sustained community demands, the Department of Justice announced this week it is launching an investigation into the water crisis.

Many hold Snyder directly culpable for the emergency itself, and note his role in the Detroit water crisis.

“The source of the Flint Water Crisis leads directly to Gov. Rick Snyder and the fiscal austerity policies that he and his Republican colleagues have been pushing for years on Michigan residents,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan,” in a statement released Thursday. “Families in Flint were forced to drink lead-tainted water while the administration scoffed at their concerns and cries for help. An entire generation of Michiganders now face an uncertain future because of Republican cuts to essential and life-giving services.”

The Republican governor appointed Flint emergency manager Darnell Earley who enforced the April 2014 decision to switch from the Detroit system to the Flint River to source water. In an angry letter to Snyder, filmmaker and Flint native Michael Moore wrote:

Your staff and others knew that the water in the Flint River was poison — but you decided that taking over the city and “cutting costs” to “balance the budget” was more important than the people’s health (not to mention their democratic rights to elect their own leaders.) So you cut off the clean, fresh glacial lake water of Lake Huron that the citizens of Flint (including myself) had been drinking for decades and, instead, made them drink water from the industrial cesspool we call the Flint River — a body of “water” where toxins from a dozen General Motors and DuPont factories have been dumped for over a hundred years. And then you decided to put a chemical in this water to “clean” it — which only ended up stripping the lead off of Flint’s aging water pipes, placing that lead in the water and sending it straight into people’s taps.

Moore, in fact, is circulating a petition calling on U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch to arrest Snyder for “corruption and assault.”

While Flint returned to the Detroit water system in October following public concern, the wide-spread lead poisoning can not be undone. According to the World Health Organization, “Young children are particularly vulnerable to the toxic effects of lead and can suffer profound and permanent adverse health effects, particularly affecting the development of the brain and nervous system.”

And there are already signs damage has been done. A study released in September by researchers at the nearby Hurley Children’s Hospital identified a “rise in blood lead levels of children less than 5 years old” living within two Flint Zip codes since the city began sourcing drinking water from the Flint River.

In a municipality that is 56 percent black and, according to the latest U.S. Census, one of the poorest cities in the country, community coalitions including “Water You Fighting For” charge that profound injustices lie at the root of the current crisis. As Moore noted, “To poison all the children in an historic American city is no small feat.”

Rick Snyder is a Republican Terrorist who is bought and paid for by Billionaires like the DEVOS FAMILY (Amway preys on the poor) who ran for Governor and LOST BADLY. The DEVOS FAMILY BOUGHT RICK SNYDER to do their bidding for them.

The Devos Family also OWNS THE ATTORNEY GENERAL and thats why the AG OFFICE has no comment on the CRIMES COMMITTED BY RICK SNYDER FOR THE LAST 5 YEARS.

Rick Snyder is the MOUTHPEICE FOR THE DEVOS FAMILY,DAN GILBERT (who publicly supported Rick Snyders suspension of democracy so he could buy Detroit for pennies on the dollar) and the MIKE ILLITCH FAMILY who was GIVEN 268 MILLION of taxpayer dollars to build his PRIVATE PROFIT SPORTS ARENA.

THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT RICK SNYDER IS RUNNING A CRIMINAL ENTERPRISE THAT STEALS FROM THE PEOPLE OF MICHIGAN TO PAY OFF THE PEOPLE THAT OWNS RICK SNYDER ROTTEN TO THE CORE SOUL.

      ARREST RICK SNYDER!!

so it’s okay to use it, to one’s political leaning?, as long as the chosen one’s are exposed?
a little elitist?, but i forgot, the gop is full of white trash dead men walking, wonder what they
are going to do in 2016?, having a woman dictate to them?, almost as bad as losing two
elections to an african american? who they despise, the supreme insult to racists everywhere

    • John Pastorek

I’m pretty sure the residents of Michigan have already had brain damage for decades, as evidenced by all of the Democrats they have elected. Now they finally give a Republican a chance to fix their mess and they start crying about it.

      • stillrockin

Your knowledge of Michigan history is appalling.

      • Terry

It was a snyder appointed manager who did this, and they have known for months…you folks disgust me. Party over human life. The GOP is evil pure and simple and so it seems are you.

    • Mike Heuer

So, someone please explain just how Snyder polluted the water? Anything short of that, and this entire hit piece is nothing short of laughable. Flint has been a craphole for decades. That something like this happened there is no surprise. Blaming Snyder for it is ridiculous.

      • stillrockin

Read up on the Governor-appointed City Managers. Snyder owns this crime. Flint’s economic status is no excuse for poisoning its citizens.

        • Mike Heuer

Yeah, right. The City Managers did it. That is absurd. The only thing the city managers are there to do is try to fix the financial crap the locals screwed up. And, by locals, I mean Democrats. You morons blame Snyder for Detroit being a craphole, too?

          • Terry

The City manager attempted to ‘fix’ the financial crisis by selling assets cheaply to cronies and provide poison water…they did it read up on it…it is a fact.

            • Mike

The city switched to its own water-processing plant to cut costs while awaiting a new pipeline, and the state DEQ admitted it didn’t require the proper chemicals to treat Flint River water. Hardly the “crime” you morons claim.

      • Terry

He appointed a well paid (over a hundred thousand a year) city manage who threw out elected…and decided to ‘save’ money by changing the water supply from a save source to the polluted rive which has been polluted for decades…now the corrosion actually leached lead from water pipes…poisoning thousands of kids and adults…and here is the kicker…Snyder and his gang knew about this almost a year ago…now the US taxpayers will pay to fix this.

    • fwiw

Fortunately for the Snyder haters, this whole thing was planned, initiated, and carried out by Snyder and his minions. Fortunately.

      • life5678

Nope. Here is absolute irrefutable proof that it was the Democrats:
        http://www.gcdcwws.com/images/contentImages/file/Press%20Release.Official.KWA.Flint%20Resolution%20Decision.pdf
This Press release proves beyond doubt that the Democrat Mayor and Democrat City Council Made the decision.

        • fwiw

I don’t know who is to “blame.” I do know that problems described aren’t something that happens overnight or even over a decade. The people sniping at Snyder or Kochs or whatever have retarded thought processes because of their ideology. In the old days, they would have been called “stupid.”

          • stillrockin

Actually, your assumption about “retarded thought processes because of their ideology” describes the minds of conservatives. I just read a study on the brains of ideologues.

            • fwiw

My assumption applies to any and all political affiliations and I singled no specific party. It applies to people who allow their ideology to override everything…much like you just did in your last post. I fear you read the study with no more a discerning eye than you read my posts.

              • stillrockin

You mentioned the “retarded” as those sniping at Snyder or the Kochs. That only applies to one side. I did use a “discerning eye.” Here is the info from the studies about the conservative and the liberal brains: “…[P]olitical conservatism is promoted when people rely on low-effort
thinking. When effortful, deliberate responding is disrupted or
disengaged, thought processes become quick and efficient; these
conditions promote conservative ideology… low-effort thought might
promote political conservatism because its concepts are easier to
process, and processing fluency increases attitude endorsement.

Four studies support our assertion that low-effort thinking promotes political conservatism.”

                • fwiw

Your opinion, nor the studies you dig up, all come from a partisan point of view and means nothing of substance or import to me nor truth and accuracy, especially when one claims to know what I meant in my own writings.

                  • stillrockin

You need to take a course in composition.

                    • fwiw

Yep. And I’ll do that just as soon as you point out where I said the people were “retarded” and not their “thought processes.” You only prove my point in my original post and that it applies to you. Say goodbye. I’m not wasting anymore time on you.

        • stillrockin

This is a weak response. Did you note the name of the Governor-appointed czar in the letter? Do
you really believe that the Mayor and City Council could make such a
decision without his approval? They just provided him with cover so that
all of the Republican acolytes could point to the Democrats if anything
went wrong. Give me a break. Your argument is specious at best. This is
          not “irrefutable proof.”

        • James

again, the council was a dog and pony vote, furthermore the council aren’t the ones who ignored “standard practice” in treating the water, and most importantly the council isn’t the one who denied denied denied and attacked scientific studies showing the higher lead content.

        • Terry

Not quite the whole truth…here the Dems voted to get water directly from Lake Huron…when Detroit cut them off (city manage made that decision), they needed water and that is how this happened but after Snyder and citymanager were made aware, they refused to stop this…all involved need to go to jail.

    • EL REY

have a million peeps sign to to put that punk in prison for life

      • life5678

Too bad it was the Democrat Mayor and Democrat City Council that made the decision. Here is there press release:

        • Joel Finch

Life, would you please stop posting the same bullshit over and over?? No one who has done 2 secs of investigation into your stupidity is going to believe you, just the FauxNews idiots crowd…the mayor was PLACED into his office, not democratically elected, by the governor. Please STFU. Christ on a crutch.

          • fwiw

So it’s the governor’s fault the mayor and council made the decisions they did? And this all started when Snyder took office.
One doesn’t even need the 2 seconds to find your thinking flawed and politically inspired, or as you might put it, only a mouth-breathing MSNBC zombie would believe that load of crap is a bouquet of flowers.

            • James

the city manager was appointed, but the big scandal is how the Governor and crew denied, rejected, even attacked numerous studies that did in fact show higher lead content.

              • fwiw

And there may be a basis for criticism in how the establishment dealt with the studies, and that IS something the administration could be criticized for. Unfortunately, that’s not what the idiots are addressing. It’s purely ideological. Snyder is republican; therefore he is bad. They no more care about a solution than they claim Snyder does.

    • TeeJae

The partisan vitriol in this comment thread is ridiculous. Democrat, Republican, it doesn’t matter. It’s all a charade to keep the public divided and distracted. By fighting and blaming each other, you’re playing right into their hands.

    • balashi

The problem with Michael Moore is that now here FINALLY he has a just cause worth fighting, and no one cares anymore because he’s blown up over so many manipulated non-stories over the decades.

    • Diana M

Bottom Line, the problem is that Municipalities have refused to invest in and upgrade infrastructure all along, and they continue to do so… The 100 + year old water supply system should hve been replaced…… There are cities all around Detroit that have VOTED to switch over to The Detroit water system, because it is Supposedly Cheaper to get the water from them, then upgrade their own systems.. To me that’s getting in bed with the Devil, since we all know that Detroit hasn’t been able to manage a G.D. Dime… I bet dollars to doughnuts that in a few years time, Detroit will continue to raise the water rates to the point >> Just Like Flint, they can No Longer Afford to be apart of that Detroit System, and will have to re-vert back to their own outdated systems… and instead of putting that money into their own systems, they will have rebuilt, and subsidized Detroit’s system.

Flint could easily have it’s own pipeline to Lake Huron…. No, it won’t be Free, but it would be Good Water…. and please, don’t tell me it can’t be done…. The US has pipelines from one end to the other, carrying all kinds of products, and guess what…. Water is THE safest product you could possible transport.

      • time4change

Flint began construction of the Karegnodi pipeline to Lake Huron in 2013. Where you been?

        • Diana M

If they started it, then why isn’t it finished ??? I don’t under stand that… I work in the pipeline industry for oil and gas, there is no lolly gagging around…
I’m not from “Down There”, so I don’t know all of the new’s. That doesn’t mean I don’t care… There’s NO Reason, that any Community in Michigan, or the U.S. for that matter, should have tainted water….

          • time4change

They are only a couple weeks behind schedule. 74 miles through multiple counties, land purchases, 2 pumping stations and the complex intake which is complete ahead of schedule. And it’s coming in $15 million under budget. I agree about tainted water.

            • Diana M

Glad to hear that…. It is always better to bite the bullet and get it over and done with then put a project back on the shelf…. It will Never get any cheaper…

      • life5678

Actually trying to do just that is EXACTLY what caused the problem. Detroit kicked them off as soon as they said they were going to build their own line to Lake Huron, forcing them to use the Flint water and system that sat dormant for 50 years. Here is the irrefutable proof of this. The Press Release:
        http://www.gcdcwws.com/images/contentImages/file/Press%20Release.Official.KWA.Flint%20Resolution%20Decision.pdf
This Press release proves beyond doubt that the Democrat Mayor and Democrat City Council Made the decision.

        • Diana M

The letter does not say who KWA is ?? Contractually I don’t believe that the Detroit system dropped them like a hot rock when they said they were going to build or join, the KWA… and stop taking their money… Detroit was / is to friggin broke to not take the cash.

Obviously, someone didn’t do their home work before they decided to do this.

How bright do you have to be, to be so stupid?

    • Dave

This is all left wing propaganda and lies..lead is neutral and does not corrode, no water no matter how corrosive can strip lead off pipes …my god are all you liberal so brain dead that you blindly believe anything and everything you read from the left wing media.

Where are the hard numbers? How many part per million of lead is in the tap water? How many PPM is in the water when it leaves the treatment plant?

Liberals when your left wing media prints a story assume its a lie…because like this story its almost always is.

      • Coach1960

Try doing a little research on this before you spout your ignorance. When a right wing azzhole governor is called out on what he has done, it’s the liberal media making stuff up. You really are an arrogant fool.

      • Verna

The article didn’t say that water corroded the lead, it said they put an additive in that did it. Too bad you conservatards can’t comprehend a simple article but , if you could, you’d be a liberal.

        • Terry

Absolutely incorrect…and you know it…the city council and mayor approved getting water from Lake Huron… but they lost access to Detroil water…after assurances by city manager that it was safe to treat water…they went along with it…big mistake. But Snyder who knew almost at once did nothing for almost a year…he needs jail.

And why would they do that? They voted for it, face it. Now that’s not to excuse the governor’s bullshit, but clearly this was a bipartisan psychopathy.

            • stillrockin

Have you followed the Michigan law that allows the governor to appoint a manager to supersede all elected officials in city matters? If you have, then you know that this vote meant nothing unless it was approved by the manager. This matter is not bi-partisan. The Republican governor owns it. Please research the law and its effects.

“Have you followed the Michigan law that allows the governor to appoint a manager to supersede all elected officials in city matters?”

Michiganders always wondered why the roads never got fixed with one of the highest gas taxes in the nation. But, it was because due to mismanagement in Detroit, all the money had to go to help that city. You need to read of the power of the Governor-appointed city manager. The Mayor and the City Council have no actual power under Michigan law in this situation. Had they voted against the measure, the manager could have gone on with the project. Their participation or non-participation was sheer theater. Please read about the Michigan law concerning city managers. I believe you will be appalled about how autocracy, not democracy, rules in Michigan. The Governor owns this crime.

Quote it. I’m betting it’s nothing to do with what you said. If it was then you’d have been specific from the start and said “it was the governor’s decision alone and the council had no power.”. Instead you just referred to the signature of an appointee, as though that excused the council with no context.

                      • stillrockin

If you read it you will see that the manager has absolute power. Here is the actual statute:

LOCAL FINANCIAL STABILITY AND CHOICE ACT
                        Act 436 of 2012
                        AN
ACT to safeguard and assure the financial accountability of local units
of government and school districts; to preserve the capacity of local
units of government and school districts to provide or cause to be
provided necessary services essential to the public health, safety, and
welfare; to provide for review, management, planning, and control of the
financial operation of local units of government and school districts
and the provision of services by local units of government and school
districts; to provide criteria to be used in determining the financial
condition of local units of government and school districts; to
authorize a declaration of the existence of a financial emergency within
a local unit of government or school district; to prescribe remedial
measures to address a financial emergency within a local unit of
government or school district; to provide for a review and appeal
process; to provide for the appointment and to prescribe the powers and
duties of an emergency manager for a local unit of government or school
district; to provide for the modification or termination of contracts
under certain circumstances; to provide for the termination of a
financial emergency within a local unit of government or school
district; to provide a process by which a local unit of government or
school district may file for bankruptcy; to prescribe the powers and
duties of certain state agencies and officials and officials within
local units of government and school districts; to provide for
appropriations; and to repeal acts and parts of acts.

                      • Mick Price

Ok, so absolutely nothing in what you posted backed up what you claimed. Quoting the description of the Act doesn’t tell me who can do whatunder what circumstances under the Act.

I’m going to assume you’re lying now.

                      • Terry

It shows if you read it , that the citiy manager has absolute power in this situation.

                      • Mick Price

What you showed me doesn’t say that at all. What is the actual language? Again, I assume you’re lying since you refuse to quote the actual law.

                      • Terry

The city manager makes all the final decision and his rulings are absolute

                      • Mick Price

You’re lying. Where is the test that says that?

      • BMcGee

Did you miss the entire discussion about glacial, Lake Huron water being replaced by lead-tainted, Flint River water? Did you miss whose decision that was? Did you READ this article??

      • James

the republican appointed the emergency manager as sole governing body aka tyrant. He then goes to save a buck by switching water supply to the river, doesn’t do preventative treatment as was recommended (again to save a buck). Then Gov and crew proceed to cover up and deny all scientific material showing in fact the water does in fact have an exceptionally high lead content FOR MONTHS.

        How isn’t the governors fault?

Why are people complaining? This is how you can afford lower taxes. Do not use the water plant you have as it takes money to run it. Do not repair roads. Do not pay for schools. Lower taxes for everyone! Oh and never feed the poor or the homeless-they will just want more.

Corrupt politicians at all levels have become more than tiring and commonplace. Is all hope lost for citizens/taxpayers of America? Are there any honest current and potential future leaders left in this society? Are you as fed up with this nonsense as I am? Another nail in the coffin of Michigan is the fact that Sharia law is in effect in the Dearborn/Hamtramck area. Change is inevitable but it always seems to be for the worse these days.

    • jdun

Heh folks, why do you all think that the republicans are pushing for more states rights. This is just the tip of the ice berg for these folks. Cutting taxes for the rich and corporations, deregulating business, busting unions, cutting environmental regulations, destroying public school systems are all part of the big picture. But you poor and middle class Americans don’t worry, we’ll divert your attention from the domestic scene by trumpin’ up an ISIS crisis in Syria and terror at home. While your kids fight the wars, their kids will get even richer!

      • fog donkey

I gave you a thumbs up jdun but I’ve come to believe after a long life that both parties have become as one, pretending to oppose one another. It seems much of the opposition is for show. Our children fight and die on foreign soil for the benefit of the corporations and not for any freedoms we may have.

        • jdun

As a Vietnam vet I can surely agree with you. We are more of a plutocracy than ever and heading back to the Gilded Age I’m afraid. But, the democrats are more interested in a clean environment, workers rights, public education, and voting rights that protect us from the Fascism of the right, so I support them despite their selling out from time to time.

I guess all we can hope for is the best of either party and I know that’s a stretch but I do hope. Civil replies are hard to come by here, thanks for that and thank you much more for your service in the military. That is something to be proud of the rest of your life. Salute jdun!

Flint doesn’t have a mayor, its ruled by a “emergency manager” with unilateral control, appointed by the Governor. Democracy doesn’t exist in flint and many parts of state.

    • barbercoins2000@yahoo.com

Governor Snyder should be back in Gateway as a department head where someone else determines the efficacy of his decisions; he has consistently misread the desires of us who live here and just a few short months age wanted us to modify the state constitution to raise the sales tax to repair roads; he wanted to charge us a huge surtax at car registration and has taxed pensions and not asked business for a dime; he shortened unemployment to 20 weeks from 26, and in a state with persistently high periods of unemployment. He destroys flint lives to enable him to keep on peddling bad economics. He’s a failure, period .Granholm was a disaster but this guy is the Devil personified.

      • fog donkey

As a retiree I can testify that taxing my pension has hurt me. I could be buying food with that money. To tell you the truth both sides of the aisle are corrupt in my opinion.

        • barbercoins2000@yahoo.com

I am a retiree as well, and this governor is a horrible disaster; instead of cutting bloated state police and other budgets, the Nerd falls back on us. He’s shameless and corrupt as well as in a fog.

      • Rich Johnson

Not only was Granholm a disaster, she left the mess behind and moved to another state.

    • Howard Kirshenbaum

The state needs to now put all new piping into the city of Flint and get rid of the pipes that will be forever leaching the lead. They also need to budget for the healthcare of all the people of Flint that have been effected by the lead, especially the children. Let’s see how the good people who elected this goon feel when their taxes go up to cover this problem. He should be recalled immediately.
Maybe a good idea would be for the federal government to come in and take over all the state government functions until all is cleared up. (sarcasm) That might show the governor what it’s like to have their fairly elected positions usurped.

this was 100% a republican problem you pathetic excuse for a human being.

So if it something YOU do not like it must be a Democrat’s fault? So your mind set is that Dems can never have a good thought? What a black and white world you live in. Flint, Detroit? How cares.

A typical right wing church going republican response!!!!

      • BMcGee

Four words and you couldn’t proofread ? “How” can anyone take you seriously?

    • chukalukabus

Left wing hysterics. Remember folks the left will use anything at their disposal to destroy the USA and turn it into a communist state. This is another such case. Or, that is at least their stated mission.

For the idiots shilling the “GM will not use the water because the lead will corrode the parts” is a primary indicator of just how clueless these maggots are. Earth to maggots: Lead is not a corrosive. Should have learned that in 7th grade science.

Flint has no one to blame but themselves. Things like this happen when you have over 50 years of straight democrat Mayors. Why fix infrastructure when there are so many opportunities to buy votes with those tax dollars?

As far as infrastructure issues go, 6 months to investigate the problem is not unreasonable at all to define the problem. Things like this take time. Blaming the governor is ludicrous. The city should have been testing this at least annually for all those 50 odd years.

      • mike

@chukalukabus, give the people your address instead hiding behind the computer. We can then take you and dump you into the flint river and make you drink it. If you come out fine, then we will agree with your so called statement!!!

      • Glenn Clayton

You DO need to stop watching Fox News IT does destroy brain cells as all can see by reading your post!!!!

        • Stephen Smithe

He actually resides in Detroit and has been drinking the recommended 8 glasses of water a day.

Goes without saying the obvious affects.

      • Howard Kirshenbaum

chukalukabus – – This is not about General Motors. This is about making a decision to change the drinking water source without the proper facility to purify it. It’s about lead that has a tremendous, permanent effect on children. That’s the whole thing. There was no lead and no lead problems when they were getting Detroit’s water. Now the who system has poisoning lead in the system. It has nothing to do with corrosion. It has nothing to do with corrosion. It has nothing to do with corrosion. Now do you get it?

      • thedefect

How in the world is “we want clean water and not to get lead poisoning” a left wing hysteric? Even Snyder eventually had to acknowledge and declare it a state of emergency. State of emergency. Try to understand what that phrase means, and how serious something must be before that gets declared.

      • stillrockin

OMG! A Republican Governor and his Republican Legislators write laws that undermine democracy and replace it with an autocracy and you foolishly try that old fear tactic of “communism.” Thanks for the laugh.

    • Michael Scott

A better man than Governor Snyder would resign in shame for what happened.

      • Jim Wright

When all the Dems who created this mess stay??

        • Howard Kirshenbaum

Jim – – What Democrat created the mess of changing water supplies?
What Democrat decided not to completely purify and check the new water supply when it went online?
What Democrat is responsible for poisoning the kids of Flint with lead?
What Democrat ignored doctors and scientists that saw the huge increase in lead within the first month?
This is all on Snyder and his goons by taking over the government of Flint. If you have other sources that say this is all wrong, I’d love to hear them.

        • thedefect

Just saying “Dems who created this mess” doesn’t make it true. You kind of have to look at the facts. And while in some scenarios you can debate who caused a problem, there’s really no argument that this was anything other than a Republican process.

          • life5678

OK then, here is absolute proof that the Democrat Mayor and City Council made the decision:

That’s a press release that isn’t from the mayor or anyone associated with the mayor? Doesn’t really prove what you claim it does. Besides, you’re arguing over something that even the governor doesn’t argue. There’s no dispute by anyone that the governor and his appointees made this decision. If the governor can accept it, not sure why you can’t.

Are you kidding? The official press release is from the Genesee County Drain Commissioner’s office as it shows on the top of the page. The water system that Flint is part of is operated by the county. Apparently you didn’t read it bc all it talks about is the Mayor and City Council making the decision. Man, you are desperate and clueless. And no the Governor never said his appoint made the decision, the appointee approved the decision based on what the City Council and Mayor told him.

                • stillrockin

Try again.

                  • life5678

Try again. You got nothing. NO documents, no proof just insane made up nonsense to fit your delusion. The press release is an official record. As far as the “CZAR”, he was mentioned as a side note: “Despite Emergency Manager Ed Kurtz publicly supporting the project, Write had made a vote by the city council a CONDITION of Flint joining the KWA so the residents would have their say.” The decision to switch from Detroit was made at this meeting and would not have gone through if the Mayor and CC had not approved as the official record says. It was a CONDITION, had they not made that decision, or voted NO, none of this would have happened. THAT IS FACT. You want some cheese to go along with that whine?

                    • stillrockin

Read the fourth paragraph of your own proof, Doofus. The side note comment was the only comment with any weight. The czar has the power, not the duly elected mayor and council members. All of your other assumptions are just that…assumptions. The whine and cheese comment is trite. Of course, since you just digest whatever right wing source provides, I am not surprised by your old jokes.

                      • Mick Price

It doesn’t say anywhere that the Emergency Manager had the final decision. It specifically said that joining the KWA was conditional on the vote of the COUNCIL. You’re being dishonest.

    • Harry Haff

This is what happens when Republicans gain majority. Should the worst happen in November and the GOP achieves a presidential victory, control of the House and Senate, we will see these types of policies on a national basis, with the EPA emasculated, OSHA as well and essential health and nutrition services for the poor dismantled. But people in the US seem OK with that. As a society we are declining to a pre enlightenment level of government.

      • Jim Wright

BS this was a Dem Project from day one.

        • Howard Kirshenbaum

Jim – – Show me your proof.

          • Harry Haff

This program was instituted by the governor and his administration. Once the poisoning was known, they did nothing about it. They need to be held criminally liable.

            • Howard Kirshenbaum

Harry – – No argument from me. I agree. It’s Jim that needs to show his position and I bet he doesn’t have the guts to do that in a civil manner.

              • Harry Haff

This situation is tantamount to a massive assault on thousands of people, especially kids. It takes almost no lead to impair a child’s or infants brain development. There is even some indication that lead poisoning over generations contributed to the general mental and physical decline of the population of ancient Rome.

                • Howard Kirshenbaum

Harry – – I agree completely. The situation in Rome is more than an indication. It has a lot of backing by some good scientific minds.

          • life5678

I posted the proof above. The Mayor and City council, all Democrats voted to switch their water over. It is well documented as my most proves. Here is the link to the original document:
            http://www.gcdcwws.com/images/contentImages/file/Press%20Release.Official.KWA.Flint%20Resolution%20Decision.pdf

            • Howard Kirshenbaum

lifle5678 – – Actually that letter is the most benign part of the whole deal. KWA was just starting to drill in 2014 and the estimated time to finish was in five years. Yes the city council approved KWA but KWA was actually drilling under Lake Huron to eventually deliver the water to Flint. There was no reason to change over to the river which was untested except for the administration wanting to save money in the meantime. And after the lead problems surfaced, they either didn’t say anything, or they discredited the professional who brought it up, or they said the water was safe to drink. Don’t worry about it. None of that last stuff had anything to do with Democrats or KWA.

              • life5678

Actually the fact is that once the Flint city council made the decision to create their own Authority as the document proves, Detroit forced them off, they actually told them they were “kicking them off their system”. (see PDF in my other post). They had little choice but to go to their old system that had been unused for 50 years. And again, it was these very same people, the Mayor and CC, who made that decision too. All of the decisions concerning this whole deal were made in the same manner as outlined in the Press Release which is why I chose that document to post, that’s where it all started. Trust me, I live here and the engineer doing the water testing is a good friend and in the thick of it. The Detroit system was being sold to a private company at the time and flint was trying to stop the deal because Detroit continuously raised their rates and did not wnat to be subject to a private company. This battle has raged for years. Without Flint the deal would not have been profitable enough and the deal would have been scratched. There is much more to this than meets the eye. Its about the Democrats in Detroit trying to make money for their own broke city after they exited bankruptcy. The ONLY thing Snyder did wrong was to allow these local politicians to make their own decisions concerning this.

Genesee County Drain Commission Press release
          March 26, 2013
Jeff Write, CEO of the KWA, today praised the Flint City Council for voting to approve a resolution to OFFICIALLY have the city of Flint join the KWA and it’s water line.

“I have said from the beginning that this decision must be made by Flint’s City Council and Mayor” Said Jeff Write (CEO of KWA) “I appreciate the council voting the way they did, but even more than that, I am glad the residents of Flint were able to have their voices heard via their elected officials” The next step process will come with the KWA board executing the contract for the city.
“The most important aspect from the vote is the fact that we as an Authority can move forward knowing Flint’s intentions,” Write said.

Despite Emergency Manager Ed Kurtz publicly supporting the project, Write had made a vote by the city council a CONDITION of Flint joining the KWA so the residents would have their say.

“There is a basic tenet that government is best when when it has local control. We saw that with the council vote. Nobody, whether they live in Flint, Grand Blanc, Davison, Fenton or anywhere in Genesee County, should have these decisions made by people who live outside of their community”, said Write.

life5678 – – The lookup I saw said the project was to start the drilling in 2014 and it was a 60 month project. That puts it to 2019. It still boils down to the fact that the switch without a way to purify the river water was under the auspices of the Governors goons. Based on his apology, even he knows how wrong his administration’s decision was.

                  • life5678

So just ignore the facts presented to you and blame it on the person you dislike. Typical hack. He apologized for having people who were incompetent working for the state and that is it. If a bank teller steals $1 Million out of your bank account, is that the fault of the Bank CEO? No, but he would apologize just the same. Would the CEO go to jail over it or lose his job? NOPE! The fact is that the employees running Flint’s antiquated water system were incompetent and did not do the testing correctly nor did they know that the water treatment system was inadequate. They tested the water and found it to be within specs even though it was not. As far the Governor knew, the water was OK. These same engineers said the switch would be easy and the water would be fine. The Mayor and CC went along because their back was up against the wall as Detroit was threatening to cut them off.

BTW The entire project was 60 months, but to get Flint connected to the new KWA system was 24 months.

                    • Howard Kirshenbaum

life – – When all the people report to the governor, and the governor hears about others who are complaining about lead levels, and then tells the people it really IS OK to drink the water, yes the responsibility is all on him. As governor, he could have called this an emergency before it really became dire to the kids of Flint and he probably had the authority to tell Detroit not to shut off the water to Flint. Even if the state would have been on the hook for additional costs it would have been better than poisoning the kids.

Sorry people but making this a political issue is absurd, reading the stories about the Dupont disaster the people were against one another, those that worked for Dupont and those that were poisoned by DuPont, it was not a political movement but one of greed.

The manufacture of Teflon is produced by C8 a chemical that produces the non-stick coating and was found to have disastrous results to humans. Dupont dumped this toxic soup into the water supplies of the population around their plants in WVA and Ohio.

A man-made compound that didn’t exist a century ago, C8(Teflon) is in the blood of 99.7 percent of Americans, according to a 2007 analysis of data from the Centers for Disease Control, as well as in newborn human babies, breast milk, and umbilical cord blood. A growing group of scientists have been tracking the chemical’s spread through the environment, documenting its presence in a wide range of wildlife, including Loggerhead sea turtles, bottlenose dolphins, harbor seals, polar bears, caribou, walruses, bald eagles, lions, tigers, and arctic birds.

Also 3M produced C8 and sold it to Dupont along with 7 other companies. Even though C8 is phased out the replacements are no better:

In 2006, under pressure from the U.S. EPA, DuPont and 7 other companies promised to phase out by 2015 a cancer-causing chemical called PFOA(C8), used to make Teflon and also found in grease-resistant coatings for food packaging. In its place, the chemical industry is pushing new, supposedly “green” food package coatings.

But an investigation by Environmental Working Group (EWG) finds no evidence that the industry-touted replacement chemicals being rushed to market are safer — and plenty of evidence that DuPont and other manufacturers are continuing a decades-long pattern of deception about the health risks of PFOA and related chemicals.

People used to think I was crazy when I said Teflon was poison. Stop listening to either party, don’t trust them and start to detox yourself. And yes unfortunately all municipal water supplies are polluted and chemical treatment plants DO NOT remove all the toxins nor the medical drug residues.

Just because of increased lead in this case, doesn’t mean all Americans aren’t faced with the same issues, if you think your water is clean you’re deceiving yourself. All municipal water treatment plants were built decades ago and have no tests to determine safe levels of many toxic pollutants, such as POFA’s and residues from pharmaceuticals as well as the thousands of chemicals produced by industry. Polluted water is everyone’s problem.

Calls for Michigan Governor Rick Snyder’s ouster—and arrest—are growing
after internal emails showed that his high-level staffers were aware of
lead poisoning in Flint’s public water supply six months before the
administration declared a state of emergency.
Hey knucklehead , this is the problem- not who was governor when.

        • c_chandler

his high level employees were aware…how does that lead to him?

      • Bob Lafreniere

You must have been drinking the GOP kool-aid! The story told of Snyder and his cohorts are the ones who switched from the Detroit water system to the Flint River to save a few thousand dollars a year!
Republitards don’t seem to have very good reading comprehension skills. Must be from cutting school budgets at every chance they get. Or for profit charter schools really do suck!

        • rocks911

Republitards have never been good at thinking for themselves, they simply lap up the propaganda of their Fuhrer of the moment. Home schooled morons.

        • Jim Wright

That was a Dem led project with kickbacks included as usual.

          • Robert

Jim, provide evidence to your claims, or clam up.

    • dana becker

This is what the GOP will bring to every city if given the opportunity. They don’t believe in regulations and are undermining them in every state they control. Don’t believe me, look it up. They are putting hacks into high placed positions to look the other way and are firing any workers who point out any irregularities or complain about lack of enforcement of regulations.

      • NebrDan

HA HA HA HA takes time for lead to poison water and if you think what you posted it true I have a bridge over a swap to sell you! Take a good hard look at liberal ran cities safe haven for illegals who kill, bankrupt Detroit, Chitcago, going the same way. HA HA HA HA HA so blind you have been trained very well but yet this post is funny as can be!

        • Bob Lafreniere

Not all that long, moron. Lead poisoning is an accumulative poison. Once it enters the body, it doesn’t leave.

Did you have another sip of the GOP kool-aid?

        • rocks911

Jesus H. Christ! Take a night class in English usage, you’re very nearly unreadable, must be home schooled.

      • Jim Wright

        Moronic post after post.

        • Beartx

          Stop mocking yourself.

        • Jay Kauffman

          Yep thats you

        • BMcGee

I think “Moronic post after post” is Jim Wright’s mantra.

    • mgoblueanne

Maybe Synder is trying to help his business friends who sell bottled water. Sadly Flint folks don’t have the money for buying much bottled water.

    • James Sapient

Republicans – Democrats ???? News flash, If you’re an ^sshole you’re an ^sshole no matter what party you belong to. Snyder is the King of Rectums.

    • tiredofstupidty

Cane the Governor and his staff first then put them in jail.

    • Disgusting

    • jack

Because you are successful in business doesn’t mean that you know how to govern . Business people tend to look at the bottom line and don’t care what the effects are on the population. Don’t be sucked in by the propaganda generated by Trump. If elected he won’t deliver on most of his promises and will govern in a way that protects his social economic class. He says he wants to return America to greatness , but never gives the details about what he mean by greatness. Looking at him leads me to believe greatness to Trump means making Trump great.

      • NebrDan

HA HA HA HA HA wow that is funny!!!! You know you should not go thru life blind and dumb! HA HA HA HA keep the vison you have if that is what you believe and are trained to do!

        • gtrmen

So you found a catchy phrase that someone else came up with and you post it over and over….HA HA HA HA HA HA.

        • Bob Lafreniere

@NebrDan:disqus, save some of the kool-aid for the other moronic republitards! You’ve had more than enough!

        • jack

I’m neither blind or dumb. You appear to be the dumb one. Your profile says you are a former mortgage broker. Were you too dumb to continue to do the job.

      • Letonqua

To you and the rest of the communist pukes “greatness” is getting free zhitt delivered to your mom’s basements while you smoke your bowls and play x-box.

        • jack

Your an idiot, not worth responding to.

          • Letonqua

            Yet you did.

    • onthemark

I think the JEwJew moderators are blocking good comments & conversation as usual.. The ONLY free $peech they are for is the type that purcha$e$ OUR reps..

      • DennisT

onthemark-You appear to be a grade A pinhead. Perhaps you should give serious thought to moving to a country whose residents despise Jewish people. Iran comes immediately to mind. And do it today, please, before your garbage attitudes infect anyone else.

        • Bob Lafreniere

@disqus_5M6B5AGpJg:disqus, Palestine seems more appropriate! The Jews we’ll shoot back.

    • rod

ARREST HIM and Christie and Bush and Walker—all GOP communists who DONT care about YOU

    • disqus_4QILcqf28h

      What is Mint Press?

      • rocks911

Right wing lunacy for the hopelessly ignorant

        • disqus_4QILcqf28h

Actually it seemed just the opposite, which is why I asked.

          • rocks911

After further investigation it seems to be not entirely left or right but a mouthpiece for Syrian interests, even occasionally presenting Assad as a really nice just misunderstood guy.
Whatever the case, it’s not a site that I will bother visiting as it has a clear bias and agenda.
My initial post was obviously incorrect, I confused it with a right wing site.

            • disqus_4QILcqf28h

              Thanks for the update.

      • TeeJae

        Read the ‘About’ link.

    • GALT

It is time to get past this idiotic notion of “state rights” in so far as “legality”
is concerned……the concept of separate jurisdictions provides opportunity for
corruption and abuse at each level, federal, state and local. And as noted in
Jurassic Park….”opportunity will find a way.”

Of course, that your average american “citizen” has a clue what the “law” is
all about, combined with the fact that there is 1 lawyer for every 200 people
and there is still nothing approaching “justice” anywhere….might, maybe,
hopefully by probably NOT……put paid the bromide that: “We are a nation of
      laws, not of men”

REALLY? Who makes the laws? …….MICE?????

From what I can tell, the MICE…..are NOT HAPPY.

But the RATS are cool with it.

Where are the common “law and equity” courts?

Not anywhere where you can access them…..but how would YOU know?

    • Bruno Tam

      Michigan republicans are monsters .
How do you knowingly poison a whole generation of a city’s children ?
And then just say oooppps you’re sorry .
This monstrous act will cost the residents of Michigan billions in tax dollars and probably billions more from the federal government that you republicans hate so much .
There must be some kind of federal laws these monsters can be charged with .

        • Bicycle Girl

So we can safely say that politicians from BOTH parties are responsible! Quit being party shills and always blaming the other side. BOTH PARTIES are in on it together!

          • NebrDan

            Right on!

      • NebrDan

HA HA HA HA do you know lead can’t poison water over night! HA HA HA HA many liberal Governor are just as guilty HA HA HA HA HA HA

      • chukalukabus

The governor of Michigan has absolutely nothing to do with the municipal public water supply in Flint, Michigan. Never has. If you want to assess blame, direct it to the local government. Lead takes decades to reach high levels in water supply systems.

    • TecumsehUnfaced

It’s certain about time that this fascist thug sock puppet who has done the people of Michigan so much injury gets arrested and spends the rest of his life in prison drinking contaminated Flint water.

      • roccolore

Democrats are the fascist thugs who refuse to take responsibility for what happened in the Animas River.

        • md22mdrx

The article says it was well-intentioned, but they made mistakes.

          Hardly “democrat fascist thugs”.

Snyder and his cronies didn’t have intentions other than greed, money, and the bottom line. Big difference.

          • NebrDan

Not true but you liberals are well trained! Both parties are at fault to other wish shows how stupid you people are! And this writers is a liberal how can you trust the media well I guess you can liberals are not to bright!

        • Ron I.

Born and bred Republican. Too bad.
