At the beginning of 2014, we heard Peter Bouckaert of Human Rights Watch speak of the ethno-religious genocide taking place in the Central African Republic. Now in December, a further report by the human rights group details the worsening plight of Muslims in the land locked country.
Caught between raging violence and displacement camps unfit to live in, Muslims in the Central African Republic have been told they cannot leave the country, amid the government’s hopes of a reconciliation with the remaining Muslim community.
Earlier this year I traveled to Chad, on the borders of CAR, to meet a number of refugees who had fled the horrific crisis. For them, it was a lifeline to escape the “ethno-religious genocide” taking place.
My documentary for Islam Channel follows my attempt to document the “forgotten conflict” first hand and explores the “Crisis in the Republic.”
