Jennifer Loewenstein: Zionism Is ‘A Particularly Pernicious Form Of Nationalism’

June 2, 2016 By Dr. Milena Rampoldi 10 Comments

I interviewed Jennifer Loewenstein, a journalist with years of experience in the Middle East.

Jennifer Loewenstein was Associate Director of the Middle East Studies Program at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Last August she mooved to Penn State University. She is politically active, and writes as a freelance journalist. Her work has been featured in scholarly publications such as The Journal of Palestine Studies, and she is a regular contributor to CounterPunch.

Loewenstein is a member of the USA board of the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions and founder of the Madison-Rafah Sister City Project.

Can Israel & Palestine Live In Peace? ProMosaik Interviews Richard Silverstein

January 19, 2016 By Dr. Milena Rampoldi 8 Comments

A very interesting interview with Richard Silverstein, about Israel and Palestine. He explains his way of being a Zionist. He wants Israel as a fully democratic State, and does not accept apartheid.

Richard Silverstein is a MintPress analyst who has written the Tikun Olam blog since 2003, specializing in Israeli politics and U.S. foreign affairs. Silverstein works to expose the excesses of the Israeli national security state. He breaks major news stories that are often under judicial gag or military censorship, and which may not be reported in Israel.

He has been published in Haaretz, Al Jazeera English, The Forward, Christian Science Monitor, Middle East Eye, and The Seattle Times. He speaks Hebrew fluently and incorporates the Hebrew-language press into his blog and other publications. He earned a BA from Columbia University, a BHL from the Jewish Theological Seminary, and MA in Comparative Literature from UCLA. He did two years of undergraduate and graduate study at the Hebrew University. He lives in Seattle.

Milena Rampoldi, ProMosaik: You define yourself as progressive (critical) Zionist. Can you explain this to our readers?

David Wapner: Being Honest About Israel & Zionism

July 29, 2015 By Dr. Milena Rampoldi 1 Comment

Today I am very happy to introduce you to David Wapner, an Israeli Jew, born in Buenos Aires in 1958 who moved to Israel in 1998 and quickly understood the trap of Zionist ideology.

He is a narrator, poet, musician, singer, playwriter and puppeteer. He studied medicine, music therapy, and history and is the co-founder of the tango-rock band Guttural. He was also the editor of the tabloid of poetry and fictions “Correo Extremaficción.”

His biography and his honest way of dealing with Israel, Zionism, and injustice, can be an eye-opener for many Westerners who still blindly support Israel, instead of fighting against its racist and colonialist system. Israel is a colonial state and will remain one if we do not stand up and say NO to apartheid, NO to militarism, NO to racial, religious, political discrimination.

And unless we say NO to violence and to continuous abuse and aggression against the Palestinian population, there can never be a just peace in the region. David is not optimistic, as he says himself in the end … but his political utopia is a state where all can leave together.
