Hope For Tomorrow’s Forests: Climate Change News

Every week, Fracked Earth News selects the top climate and energy headlines, including:

__Research shows that trees re-planted over abandoned clear-cut areas in the tropics absorb 11 times more CO2 than older-growth trees and they grow quickly! Scientists have even mapped out areas in Latin America most promising for re-forestation and CO2 absorption.

__“75 percent of abandoned uranium mines are on federal and Tribal lands,” leaching into local water supplies. One Navajo community “‘has been exposed to twice the legal limit allowable for uranium through their tap.’” Legislation has been introduced to address this situation, but it’s languishing in Congress.

__Nevada’s Republican governor proposes the feds free-up certain land areas restricted for the sage grouse and instead restrict specific other areas. This swap would allow gold mining to resume, and he’s sure the grouse would like it.
