Apparently, China, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand are the sources of about 60% of the plastic pollution in our oceans. Have humans ushered in a new geological epoch, the Anthropocene? There are now “radioactive dust …, bits of plastic and chunks of concrete” in sediment samples.
__The EPA’s Region 5 administrator has resigned as the Flint, Michigan crisis continues. Coca-Cola, Nestlé, PepsiCo and Walmart have guaranteed 6.5m bottles of water for Flint’s schoolchildren this year. Btw, clean water was trucked in for employees at a state building in Flint as early as January 2015.
__The Wampis of Peru have declared themselves an autonomous indigenous government—not seeking independence, but determined “to protect their rights and territory.” In particular, trying to protect their territory against “logging, mining, oil and gas and mega dams” and imperialist attitudes toward indigenous people.
