The Coming War On Intellectuals Under Donald Trump

December 7, 2016 By Kevin Patrick Kelly 3 Comments

There was a time that the title of intellectual was of great reverence in society. Now, as Raymond Williams writes in his “Keywords:

“Until the middle twentieth century unfavorable uses of intellectuals, intellectualism, and intelligentsia were dominant in English, and it is clear that such uses persist.”

It is easy to understand why. Many intellectuals today have become courtiers to power. They have become stenographers and apologists to the political and financial elites that have eroded away our rule of law, our environment, our middle class, and the institutions that we once looked to for guidance.

Kaepernick’s National Anthem Protest Holds A Mirror Up To America

October 5, 2016 By Kevin Patrick Kelly 2 Comments

The revolutionary actions of San Francisco 49ers’ backup Quarterback Colin Kaepernick have produced a tidal wave of malice and scorn from sports spectators and the general public. This was evident in a recent public opinion poll, which was amazingly broken down by Shannon Sharpe. Among those polled, 47 percent opposed the Quarterback’s protest, with just 32 percent supporting his decision to kneel during the National Anthem.

The original intent of the protest was to help project a spotlight onto America’s epidemic of African Americans being unnecessarily killed at an alarming rate by police officers. Again, just recently, helicopter and dash cam video revealed the death of unarmed African-American motorist Terence Crutcher at the hands of Tulsa Officer Betty Shelby. His only crime was pulling off to the side of the road in an attempt to fix his automobile.

Crutcher’s death appeared to harden the Quarterback’s belief in his protest: “This is a perfect example of what this is about.”

Why Can’t the American Government Stop Talking About RT?

February 9, 2015 By Andrey Panevin 3 Comments

In the current climate of political Russophobia, the American government just can’t stop talking about RT News (Russia Today). Secretary of State John Kerry has blasted it as a “propaganda bullhorn.”

The Chair of the US Broadcasting Board of Governors labelled it beside Boko Haram and ISIS and now Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland has called it a broadcaster of “untruths … with a tiny, tiny viewership.”

The obvious question to ask is, why do they insist on talking about RT if it really is all the things they call it? The answer is just as obvious. It is because they understand that RT is the opposite of all of these things, and people are beginning to find out.
