A List Of All 61 Journalists Killed In 2014

January 27, 2015 By MyMPN 1 Comment

Internationally, many journalists are killed all each year while gathering the news for us.

Two major organizations keep track of their deaths: the Committee To Protect Journalists and Reporters Without Borders. Both organizations have specific criteria governing the investigation and confirmation—as well as establishing motive—for each killing, including whether it occurred because of the journalistic activities of those killed. Both report their results annually.

In its annual report for 2014, the Committee to Protect Journalists, based in New York, identified 61 journalists whose deaths met their rigorous criteria. What follows is a brief summary, in chronological order, for each of those 61 journalists, with links to CPJ’s complete descriptions.

VIDEO: Ethno-religious Genocide Against Muslims In The Central African Republic

December 23, 2014 By Yasmin Khatun 4 Comments

At the beginning of 2014, we heard Peter Bouckaert of Human Rights Watch speak of the ethno-religious genocide taking place in the Central African Republic. Now in December, a further report by the human rights group details the worsening plight of Muslims in the land locked country.

Caught between raging violence and displacement camps unfit to live in, Muslims in the Central African Republic have been told they cannot leave the country, amid the government’s hopes of a reconciliation with the remaining Muslim community.

Earlier this year I traveled to Chadian, on the borders of CAR, to meet a number of refugees who had fled the horrific crisis. For them, it was a lifeline to escape the “ethno-religious genocide” taking place. My documentary for Islam Channel follows my attempt to document the “forgotten conflict” first hand and explores the “Crisis in the Republic.”
