From The FDA To Facebook, Why Shopping For CBD Oil Is Confusing

December 12, 2016 By Gunhee Park 1 Comment

Shopping for CBD oil is quite a sketchy experience.

Brands use overly vague language on their sites, like “CBD helps with homeostasis” or “daily wellness.” You’ll find it extremely hard to find what benefits hemp extracts actually offer. They won’t tell you how much CBD to take (or even what’s recommended).

Most sites don’t even use the term CBD on their pages because they could get in trouble. Rather, you’ll find substitute terms, such as hemp extract, hemp oil, or even phytocannabinoid oil being used.

But before diving into why these issues exist, let’s first explore what CBD is and why it is still so controversial.

Belgium: Parents Of Severely Epileptic Girl Turn To Illegal CBD Oil

November 3, 2015 By Patrick Dewals 2 Comments

Sofie Voncken is a six year old girl who appeared in a June 2015 episode of “Koppen” on the Flemish television channel (VRT). Sofie has lived since she was three years old with a particularly severe form of epilepsy that unquestionably changed her life forever. After years of fruitless treatment, the medical team was distraught; they informed the parents about the painful situation. “They told us to prepare ourselves for the worst. This is not something you want to hear as a parent!”

Fortunately Sofie’s parents currently held a wild card aside. A last-minute means of rescue that Western (Belgian) conventional medicine do not know about and that the Leuven medical team didn’t want to be involved with in an active way when Jean-Pierre had told them his last possibility to help his daughter: cannabis (CBD oil).

He had even suggested to them that they should give cannabis oil to Sofie in the hospital under their supervision and they should monitor the results. But in the Belgian academic hospital they didn’t want to honor this request of a very anxious father and there was nothing left for the Voncken’s other than giving Sofie cannabis oil in their home by themselves. Before we learn the rest of the story, we must first answer another question. How did Jean-Pierre come to his extensive knowledge of cannabis oil?

Carly’s Law: Alabama CBD Oil Test Offers Hope For Leni

March 9, 2015 By Adam Powell 1 Comment

After several months of delays and wading through federal bureaucracy, the University of Alabama at Birmingham has finally been approved to begin its CBD oil study under “Carly’s Law,” which was passed unanimously by the Alabama Legislature last year.

“It’s taken us a whole year to get to this point,” said Dr. David Standaert, Chairman of UAB’s Department of Neurology. “It’s been very difficult with this because of all of the federal restrictions.”

That sentiment isn’t lost on Dustin Chandler, father of the bill’s namesake, Carly. “It’s been a long, hard process and it took a lot of patience,” Chandler said. “It taught me that the people have a voice and that voice is even more powerful when it comes from our children.”

Carly has applied to be involved in the program, though Chandler has not received any word on her application or when applicants will be notified of their inclusion or exclusion. Chandler is optimistic that the CBD oil will provide his daughter with relief from her seizures, as well as it make it possible for her to get off of the various medications she is currently taking.
