A New York woman was arrested Friday in connection with the fatal shootings of two volunteer firefighters on Christmas Eve.
According to the Associated Press, US Attorney William Hochul said Dawn Nguyen of Rochester faces federal charges of knowingly making a false statement. She was also charged by the state earlier Friday for filing a falsified business record.

State Police Senior Investigator James Sewell said the charges are connected to the purchase of an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle and a 12-gauge shotgun that William Spengler had with him Monday when firefighters Michael Chiapperini and Tomasz Kaczowka were killed.
Nguyen’s lawyer, Dave Palmiere, said his client bought the guns legally and that they had been stolen, reported NBC News. He said Nguyen didn’t recall whether she reported the guns stolen.
Dawn Welsher, Nguyen’s mother, told NBC that neither she nor her daughter gave or sold Spengler the weapons.
“This is nuts,” she said. “I never supplied this man with nothing. My daughter never supplied him with anything. He’s setting us up.”
