34 Years Ago – The IDF’s Forgetten Massacres Of 3500 People – Including Women And Children

“I saw dead women in their houses with their skirts up to their waists and their legs spread apart; dozens of young men shot after being lined up against an alley wall; children with their throats slit, a pregnant woman with her stomach chopped open, her eyes still wide open."

The Sabra and Shatila massacre was the slaughter of between 762 and 3,500 Palestinian and Lebanese Shia Muslim civilians, by a Lebanese Christian Phalangist militia assisted by the Israel Defense Forces, in the Sabra and Shatila Palestinian refugee camps in Beirut, Lebanon.

The massacre was presented as retaliation for the assassination of newly elected Lebanese president Bachir Gemayel, the leader of the Lebanese Kataeb Party. It was wrongly assumed that Palestinian militants had carried out the assassination.

On September 15th, the Israeli Defense Forces had already surrounded the camp, and controlled the entrances and exits. It also occupied several multi story buildings that they deemed would serve as observation posts. Ariel Sharon and his chief of staff Rafael Eitan informed the phalangists that the PLO was behind the attack and invited them to enter the camps to take their revenge.

1,500 militiamen assembled at Beirut International Airport, then occupied by Israel. Under the command of Elie Hobeika, they began moving towards the camps in IDF suppliedJeeps, following Israeli guidance on how to enter the camps.

For the next 36 to 48 hours, the Phalangists massacred the inhabitants of Sabra and Shatila, while Israeli troops guarded the exits and continued to fire flares at night. Later on, a militiaman radioed his commander Hobeika and asked what to do with the women and children in the refugee camp. This was overheard by an Israeli officer, who heard Hobeika’s reply: “This is the last time you’re going to ask me a question like that; you know exactly what to do.” Phalangist troops could be heard laughing in the background.

The Phalangists did not exit the camps at 5:00 a.m. on Saturday as ordered. They forced the remaining survivors to march out of the camps, to the stadium for interrogations; this went on for the entire day. The militia finally left the camps at 8:00 a.m. on September 18.

Between 1200 and 3500 people were killed, around quarter of which were Lebanese, in the Sabra and Chatila Palestinian refugee camps between September 16 and 18, 1982.

Many of the bodies found had been severely mutilated. Many boys had beencastrated, some were scalped, and some had the Christian cross carved into their bodies.

Janet Lee Stevens, an American journalist later wrote:

“I saw dead women in their houses with their skirts up to their waists and their legs spread apart; dozens of young men shot after being lined up against an alley wall; children with their throats slit, a pregnant woman with her stomach chopped open, her eyes still wide open, her blackened face silently screaming in horror; countless babies and toddlers who had been stabbedor ripped apart and who had been thrown into garbage piles.”

On December 16, 1982, the United Nations General Assembly condemned the massacre and declared it to be an act of genocide.

    • Zuheir Mohsen (Arabic: ‎زهير محسن‎)- was the top PLO member responsible for the massacre in ‎Damour that took place on January 20, 1976 during the 1975–1990 Lebanese Civil War. ‎Damour, was a Christian town on the main highway south of Beirut, was attacked by the ‎Palestine Liberation Organization units. It is estimated that 684 civilians died in battle or in the ‎massacre that followed, and the remainder forced to flee.‎

      According to an eyewitness: ‎
‎“The attack took place from the mountain behind “It was an apocalypse,” said Father Mansour ‎Labaky, a Christian Maronite priest who survived the massacre at Damour. “They were coming, ‎thousands and thousands, shouting “Allahu Akbar! (God is great!) “Let us attack them for the ‎Arabs, let us offer a holocaust to Mohammad!”, And they were slaughtering everyone in their ‎path, men, women and children.”‎
‎ The attackers destroyed the buildings in the seaside village systematically and then took revenge ‎on the remaining Christian inhabitants. The Christian cemetery was destroyed, coffins dug up, ‎the dead robbed, vaults opened, and bodies and skeletons thrown across the graveyard. The ‎church was burnt and an outside wall was covered with a mural of Fatah guerrillas holding AK47 ‎rifles. A portrait of Yasser Arafat was placed at one end. Other sources claim that the church was ‎used as a repair garage for PLO vehicles, and also as a range for shooting-practice with targets ‎painted on the eastern wall of the nave.‎

Twenty Phalangist militiamen were executed and then civilians were lined up against a wall and ‎sprayed with machine-gun fire. None of the remaining inhabitants survived. Estimates of the ‎civilian dead was 684. Among the killed were family members of Elie Hobeika, and his fiancé. ‎Following the Battle of Tel al-Zaatar later the same year, the PLO resettled Palestinian refugees ‎in Damour. After the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982, the Zaatar refugees were expelled ‎from Damour, and the original surving inhabitants brought back.‎

According to Thomas L. Friedman, the Phalangist Damouri Brigade which carried out the Sabra ‎and Shatila massacre during the 1982 Lebanon War sought revenge not only for the assassination ‎of Bashir Gemayel, but also for what he describes as past tribal killings of their own people by ‎Palestinians including those at Damour.‎

Just how the Israeli Army could have stopped the Maronite Christian Lebanese forces, or ‎‎‘Phalaginst’ led by Elie Hbekia on the 16 of September 1982 from taking their ‘rightful’ and ‎‎‘just’ revenge against the Palestinians in the Sabra and Shatila affair for the assassination, two ‎days previously, of their (beloved) Maronite Christian President of Lebanon Bashir ‎Gemayel.(Who by the way was a very charismatic and intelligent person who had a deep love for ‎a “Free” Lebanon- a Lebanon devoid of Shi’ite and Syrian Moslem control.)
What you and the readers do not know and have never heard or seen about in the ‘Free Press’ is ‎the whole story behind the reason for the “Phalangist” attack and what motivated it. Did you ‎mention the Massacre in Damour in 1976 by the PLO? ‎

    • “The Sabra and Shatila massacre was the slaughter of between 762 and 3,500 Palestinian and Lebanese Shia Muslim civilians, by a Lebanese Christian Phalangist militia” We were not involved in fact we attempted to stop the attacks and we received several of the wounded to our MASH unit stationed nearby. As to the reason for the attack in was the culmination of hatred for the massacre in Damour

Zionism is Terrorism, and this has always been the case. The Zionist menace needed a story for legitimacy so it connected itself to Judaism, thus giving the world the sick, and utter illegitimate state of Israel founded by terrorists, and led by them to this very day. There has not been an Israel leader who has been just, morally sound, or who respected human rights. All of them are blood thirsty, and enjoy the charade they have created.

The “most moral army” these murderous Zionist thugs call themselves?
